Neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier Matthew Heimbach is scheduled to speak on the campus of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, February 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. While we respect free speech, we strongly state our opposition to his message of hate. The Fern and Manfred Steinfeld Program of Judaic Studies at UT teaches about the dangers of antisemitism and Nazism. We will continue to teach this through our classes and programs.
In response to these events, and in addition to letters of protest and meeting with the chancellor’s office to help with the construction of a response, members of our core faculty are participating in a teach in Friday, February 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. in the amphitheater just outside McClung Tower (along the pedestrian walkway). Going forward, we will also be offering educational programming about antisemitism and the Holocaust.
For students who wish to be off campus in a safe space while the speaker is on campus, please contact Helene Sinnreich.
