Faculty Notes

In July 2019, Monica Black was appointed editor-in-chief of Central European History, the premier US-American journal in the field. Her new book, A Demon-Haunted Land: Witches, Wonder Doctors, and the Ghosts of the Past in Post-WWII Germany, will appear in 2020 with Metropolitan Books (Henry Holt).
Last year was Christine Shepardson’s first as the head of the Department of Religious Studies, so it was unusually busy, but she was glad to see her second book released in paperback (Shepardson, Controlling Contested Places), and she discussed her new research at Princeton University, Brown University, and University of California-Santa Barbara, and at conferences in Sweden and Denver. She is excited to be finalizing plans to speak at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem this spring.
