Student Spotlight: Carl Weinstein

Carl Weinstein, a Judaic Studies major, received the Fern and Manfred Steinfeld Program in Judaic Studies Scholarship.

Carl’s family moved around a great deal during Carl’s early years so they grew up in Georgia, Taiwan, Maryland, and Tennessee. Carl came to Judaic Studies after taking gender and religion as well as modern Hebrew in his first semester.

“My favorite Judaic Studies course so far is one that I am currently taking, Dr. Darby’s JST 413, Death and the Afterlife in the Biblical World,” Carl said. “It is simultaneously incredibly enjoyable and challenging; however, the challenge is part of the joy.”

Carl plans to go to graduate school after graduation due to his experience working for Professor Sinnreich, which helped him develop a greater interest in the daily lives of contemporary Jews.
