Partnering with McClung Museum

shofarOur students learn in a variety of ways, including traditional lectures and discussions, but also through hands-on projects. In the past, this has included students having the opportunity to visit McClung Museum and interact with Jewish ritual objects and other artifacts related to Jewish life. This year to accommodate our classes, McClung Museum created videos and photos of a selection of their object allowing students the opportunity to still interact with their artifact collection.

One object that was studied by students in the unit on Eastern European Jewry in the Holocaust course was a shofar. Students were able to learn about the shofar and its meaning in Jewish religious practice. This made later encounters in the course with a shofar being blown at Auschwitz more meaningful and significant to the students.
